Flesh & Plastic
Since you’re in on a Saturday night…

I’m currently an MA student of Fashion Marketing & Communication and I’d really like you to help me out with my research by completing this survey!

It is 29 questions and will probably take 5 - 10 minutes to complete… but it is interesting if you like thinking about make up, cosmetic surgery, fitness, beauty, dieting, fashion etc

Just follow the link below:

Thank you so much to everyone who has completed the survey so far! I never expected so many responses! My tutors are so pleased. Data is so much more reliable with large figures, so thank you so much!

However if you’re NOT a white, straight, female, student aged 18-25 then you’re being under-represented in the survey!! Complete and have your say!

I bought some new glittery nail varnish, it looks super cute <3 and it’s more Barbie pink in real life :) <3 xx

London Style

I went to London the weekend before Christmas 2010 for two nights with my boyfriend for Christmas shopping and just because I love London! Especially at Christmas time with snow and pretty lights <3. We stayed in the Tower Bridge Hilton which was stunning <3 Some guy asked me if I was “her” (i.e. Paris Hilton) haha… no!

My style can probably be described as “Barbie with an edge” or “Rock Star Barbie”, that is pink and frilly meets black and gothic, or, Hello kitty meets PVC. My style is extremely difficult to achieve and maintain mostly because shops just do not sell anything like it (in Nottingham England). The high street shops are not ‘Barbie’ enough, and even if something is pink and frilly it probably isn’t slimming or sexy, plus it’s difficult to clothe a size 8 with 34F boobs. Also, the Goth shops are too extreme and masculine. Therefore I buy a lot of my clothes online, mainly corsets and accessories.

For London I wanted to rock my style but the market was very limited. One outfit that I managed to come up with was black pleather* hot-pants (River Island), a Barbie top (Miss Selfridge – pyjamas, shuussshh), black tights and rock chick boots (New Look), accessorised a Barbie necklace (handmade and bought online), bling skull belt (River Island, men’s department) and a pink Barbie PVC bag (Pauls Boutique).

*pleather = fake leather (vegetarian friendly)

We spent the most of that day in Harrods, it’s huge and full of such beautiful, over-priced things! <3

Hair & Nails

I wore blonde, pink & turquoise hair extensions (the majority of my blonde hair is real however). I thought they looked really cute and a bit like a My Little Pony tail <3 To match the hair I had my nails painted Barbie pink with a blue tip. Some people loved them, others thought that they looked weird, but that was kind of the point ;)

That night we checked out Camden Town, I wore a black corset, pink bra, pink skirt and a lot of fake tan (always required ;) Camden town is known for having a bit of an edge and lots of weird people wearing interesting clothes. I guess there I looked pretty normal.

I love wearing a bra with corsets because you get extra lift and a splash of colour… also no one else does it! However, you need long hair as it looks pretty tacky from the back.

Day 2

The next day I just wore a cute black Topshop dress, accessorised with a Barbie bag and necklace. I also curled my hair which I seldom do because it takes so long to do and falls out after a matter of hours… but I love it :)

Day 3

On the last day in London we went to the Natural History Museum so it probably wasn’t appropriate to wear pleather hot-pants and a corset (in the snow), but none the less…

I adore this corset, my boyfriend bought it for me from www.rock-rebel.com. It’s a Kimikal Poison Love corset and cost about £65. There are also some Kimikal tattoo corsets in pink which look amazing <3 Though they don’t “pull you in”, there is no lace up at the back, they’re more like vest tops with bones than actual corsets. I thought the look rocked, though I got some odd looks off of people :P I also wore a pink and black pendant that my Barbie-friend Belinda gave to me when we first met <3
